Mutation Patterns and Base Composition among Mitochondrial Genomes

The two transitions are in red and blue, while the four possible transversions are in purple and green. Mutation spectrum data are from MA lines of Saccharomyces cerevisiae [16], C. elegans [12], and D. melanogaster [14], as well as mitochondrial mutator strains of Mus musculus [10]. Nucleotide frequencies are from complete mtDNA sequences from each species (Drosophila data exclude the A+T-rich D-loop region).
