Turning win-win into a virtuous cycle

Great paper, thanks Taylor and colleagues ! It would be nice to expand the value proposition as you allude to in one of the final paragraphs, by looking for spatially convergent REDD and adaptation strategies that couple payments for reduced emissions with those for maintenance of ecosystem services.

Actually, it would also be important to go beyond Bruner et al. in estimating costs, as I suspect that actual costs could be reduced if the benefits of ILPAs actually reduced the level of threat and hence the huge quantum of funding devoted to addressing threats. So a win-win could be transformed into a virtuous cycle that produces an overall incremental benefit that could be invested beyond the footprint of individual PAs. Just a few thoughts.

Thanks also for the citation of our publication “Natural Solutions: helping people cope with climate change.
