I can very well perceive the enthusiasm of the authors to note evolution in real time. This reminds me of my college years as a Zoology grad when we did a simple Drosophila experiment to observe natural selection in a population. That is over a period of 4-6 weeks we observed how white-eyed flies dwindled out, from an initial population of equi-numbered white and red ones, due to selection during mating. So its really stimulating to 'see' variants of the RNA enzyme being 'selected' in response to changing 'environmental conditions' in real time.
Kudos to Paegel and Joyce!
