The possibility that national scientific bodies have actively discouraged use of the word "evolution" is alarming: in a way similar to certain institutional edicts against use of the phrase "global warming". In neither case is there a real controversy of the type the denialists (here, presumably, the "Intelligent Design" cult) claim. As the authors point out, this has important implications for public education. I have written a longer comment here:
