Clade Age and Species ..a question

Posted by serengio on 29 Aug 2012 at 11:07 GMT

This is not a comment but a question for author/s. Premise: I dont have experience in evolutionary biology, I am not a biologist.
Is possible a maximum mass (sustainable in a given environment) permitted for species? Is possible that the maximum mass is identical for each species? I.e. if the maximum mass is 100 for crocodiles and the maximum mass is 100 for insects, I will get a different number of individuals for each species: i.e. (numbers invented...) 4 crocodiles and 4000 for insects. How many chances has the evolutionary process to diversify crocodiles or insects? Only 4 for crocodiles, 4000 for insects. Crazy idea?
