Obesity might be an infectious disease

Many thanks to the authors for the very interesting findings.

I wonder whether wild type mice living together with TLR2-deficient mice for a period of time would develop obesity and insulin resistance. If true, it would imply that some obesity is contagious, which would at least in part explain clustering of obesity in the general population.

The problem with this hypothesis is that you may not have exactly the microbiota of your environment. Certainly characteristics of your immune system will have an important role in the determination of which microbiota you will have.
